Umpires, referees,carry out official duties at tournaments and matches and enforce penalties as per the rules and regulations of the different games. Umpires, referees, position themselves to see the action, judge the situation, and conclude any violations. Some sports officials, such as badminton officials, work alone, while swimming officials work in group.

Scope and opportunities

It takes a few years when you master the rules and regulations. With practice you will be promoted to a start and finish judge. For each sport the graduation levels are different, but what remains same is every referee starts at the district level goes to the state followed by the national and then if you have a recommendation and certification you can progress towards being an international referee, umpire or official. In certain sports like cricket you have pass the exam also.

Current Job Scenario

As an umpire or referee one gets paid on daily wages at the district and state level. Once you reach the national level you have monthly salaries along with the daily wages. You also accompany the national teams or players to various outstation or international games.
