Graphic Design Companies

What is Graphic Design?

Suppose you want to announce or sell something, amuse or persuade someone, explain a complicated system or demonstrate a process. In other words, you have a message you want to communicate. How do you “send” it? You could tell people one by one or broadcast by radio or loudspeaker. That’s verbal communication. But if you use any visual medium at all-if you make a poster; type a letter; create a business logo, a magazine ad, or an album cover; even make a computer printout-you are using a form of visual communication called graphic design.

Graphic designers work with drawn, painted, photographed, or computer-generated images (pictures), but they also design the letterforms that make up various typefaces found in movie credits and TV ads; in books, magazines, and menus; and even on computer screens. Designers create, choose, and organize these elements-typography, images, and the so-called “white space” around them-to communicate a message. Graphic design is a part of your daily life. From humble things like gum wrappers to huge things like billboards to the T-shirt you’re wearing, graphic design informs, persuades, organizes, stimulates, locates, identifies, attracts attention and provides pleasure.

Graphic design is a creative process that combines art and technology to communicate ideas. The designer works with a variety of communication tools in order to convey a message from a client to a particular audience. The main tools are image and typography.

In addition to this most of the universities in foreign countries offer quite flexible courses allowing the students to switch between courses based on the student’s interest; this facility is not available in our country which has a rigid course structure.

Point taken! Yes studying at foreign universities does have its own merits, no doubt in that. But while taking the decision you should not take it blindly that once you have acquired a foreign education your life is set.

Let’s have a look at The pros and cons of foreign education

Foreign degree: Will it get you a job in India?

It becomes more critical now for aspirants to ask this question as the prospects of finding a job abroad and settling there are diminishing.

Certainly, studying abroad makes your CV stand out. But how far does it help you in fetching a job back home? It becomes more critical now for aspirants to ask this question as the prospects of finding a job abroad and settling there are diminishing.
Vidya Iyengar examines The pros and cons of foreign education.

When Sujay Narayan flew back home after completing his master’s in the US, he was starry-eyed and high on hopes. He assumed he was in demand here and that his foreign degree would help him land a job of his choice, in a New York minute. His dismay, long after his return, the job hunt still continues.

Sujay is not a loner. Similar was the case of Amit Chatterjee, who finished his masters from a recognised foreign institution but has been unable to find a job in the area of his specialisation till date. “I invested so much of money thinking that when I complete the degree, I would be absorbed easily because of my international degree. However, now I am being turned down by companies I approach and the degree is not even being considered,” he says, adding that some companies say his specialisation is too niche and is irrelevant in India.

Giving up his job search, Chatterjee has now decided to prepare for MBA.

Fad for foreign universities

Why this turnaround? “HR managers at companies have a list of universities. If a particular university is not on their list of qualified universities, the candidate will not be considered for selection,” reasons Yogesh Saigal, a HR consultant, adding that many universities in London, Eastern Europe, Russia, Australia are not trusted. “No one knows about these universities and companies don’t trust them,” he adds.

There’s a fad for foreign studies. “India is reeling under a marketing bombardment. Foreign universities are wooing Indian students, especially those from the middle-income group, promising bright futures. With the Ivy-league colleges and Tier-1 universities being expensive and difficult to get into, students finally choose lesser-known universities,” he says.

On-campus interviews, no jobs for fresher’s

Saigal complaints about the IT industries. “Most companies just recruit on campus and are otherwise not looking for freshers. It’s actually a double whammy,” he rues.

That’s why; Sandhya Vijayan took what she calls a proactive turn. “I was aspiring to go abroad for higher studies when I joined college. But I later changed my mind.” She has just completed her graduation and waiting to join an international media organisation, which has its business site in Bangalore. “Yes, studying abroad is beneficial in many ways. Unlike in India, you begin at a much higher level and can expect a better pay.”

Foreign universities continue to entice Indian students with colourful dreams. While some choose a university in a country they like and set off to study there with a hope of finding a job and settling there after the studies, others think a foreign degree would give the candidate an edge when it comes to job interviews.

Students who study abroad tend to improve their English language skills, some see better career prospects. Overseas education can also be intellectually enriching and expose the students to a mix of cultures, making their learning comprehensive. “But I had to change my mind after bad news coming in. The crisis struck and the visa policy was recently changed in the UK, making it difficult for Indian citizens to find a job and settle there. So, I thought it wouldn’t be a wise thing to go abroad, unless one wants to go in for super specialisation. But I still believe the US is the best for research.”

Educationists and experts, too, recommend foreign institutions for higher studies and specialisation. It all depends on which kind of course you choose and in which subject you want to specialise in. Experts also warn students to choose the institution carefully, whether it’s Indian or foreign, and analyse the job prospects before choosing a course or institution.

Markets down, unemployment increasing abroad

When the markets are down and unemployment rates rising abroad, opting for just about any university abroad just makes matters worse. “A foreign degree does not ensure a job in India. Also most of the students go abroad to universities that are not well-recognised. Many of these universities don’t offer placement opportunities in India and students are left to look for jobs on their own. They have to try random companies and many end up in the BPO sector. Getting a job is not easy at all, unless they have connections,” said Kris Lakshmikanth, CEO and MD of search firm HeadHunters.

Choose the best

Unless a student gets into one of the few top universities, it is better to choose an acclaimed institute in India. “A good university in India counts much more than a foreign degree,” said Lakshmikanth.

A HR professional with a Bangalore-based firm echoes similar views: “It’s better for students to go in for a good or even an average university in India which is preferred by recruiters rather an average university abroad which does not add any value.”

Job prospects are diminishing abroad, with foreign governments supporting jobs for locals and tightening visa rules. Students like Ayaz Khan-who has completed his master’s in the US is struggling to find a job there and hoping to return to India.

Look for universities with hiring programmes

But still the count of students flying abroad to study continues to rise. Indian students are once again heading to Australia, with the perceived threat of physical violence having receded to a large extent. Indian students, according to an Australian Immigration Department report, top the list of visas granted in Australia.

To be on the safer side, Saigal tells students to go for institutes with good hiring programmes.

But how does one generate curiosity, in oneself or others? George Loewenstein, a professor of economics and psychology at Carnegie Mellon University, proposed an answer in the classic 1994 paper, “The Psychology of Curiosity.”

Curiosity arises, Loewenstein wrote, “When attention becomes focused on a gap in one’s knowledge. Such information gaps produce the feeling of deprivation labeled curiosity. The curious individual is motivated to obtain the missing information to reduce or eliminate the feeling of deprivation.” Loewenstein’s theory helps explain why curiosity is such a potent motivator: it’s not only a mental state but also an emotion, a powerful feeling that impels us forward until we find the information that will fill in the gap in our knowledge.

Here, Three ways on How to Stimulate Curiosity:

1. Start with the question. Cognitive scientist Daniel Willingham notes that teachers — along with parents, managers, and leaders of all kinds — are often “so eager to get to the answer that we do not devote sufficient time to developing the question,” Willingham writes in his book, Why Don’t Students Like School?

Yet it’s the question that stimulates curiosity; being told an answer quells curiosity before it can even get going. Instead of starting with the answer, begin by posing for yourself and others a genuinely interesting question — one that opens an information gap.

2. Prime the pump. In his 1994 paper, George Loewenstein noted that curiosity requires some initial knowledge. We’re not curious about something we know absolutely nothing about. But as soon as we know even a little bit, our curiosity is piqued and we want to learn more. In fact, research shows that curiosity increases with knowledge: the more we know, the more we want to know. To get this process started, Loewenstein suggests, “Prime the pump” with some intriguing but incomplete information.

3. Bring in communication. Language teachers have long put a similar idea to use in exercises that open an information gap and then require learners to communicate with each other in order to fill it. For example, one student might be given a series of pictures illustrating the beginning of the story, while the student’s partner is given a series of pictures showing how that same story ends. Only by speaking with each other (in the foreign language they are learning, of course) can the students fill in each others’ information gaps?

This technique can be adapted to all kinds of settings: for example, colleagues from different departments could be asked to complete a task together, one that requires the identification of information gaps that the coworkers, with their different areas of expertise, must fill in for each other. Communication solves the problem — and leaves the participants curious to know more.

Marc Anthony

Well said, but is it true that you should study something you love and not take a degree that will get you a good job? I know that this debate is going on for a long time and parties from both sides have their say about the benefits of the same.

So the question is Passion Vs abilities- Which way to go?

To me having mere passion is not enough and one should check his/her abilities while taking the decision.

Here is a nice article from The Guardian on Passion Vs abilities Which way to go?

Should you study something you love or a degree that will get you a job?

Two students debate whether you should follow your head or your heart when it comes to picking your degree

Choosing what to study at degree level is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make as a young person. So how do you decide what’s right for you? Should you follow your heart and study something you’re really passionate about, regardless of where it might lead you, or should you instead opt for a degree with a more secure career route? Here two students argue both sides of the debate.

“Study what you love,’ says Aimee Wragg

Ask a student what they’d study if guaranteed their dream job and it’s likely that the answer won’t correspond with what they actually choose. This is often because their aspirations have been diminished by those who “know best”.

Most advice on which degree to study is concentrated purely on obtaining a job in the future. We are discouraged by many from pursuing abstract interests because, apparently, the prospects are unrealistic.

But is it really worth taking an unappealing route on the basis that it could possibly increase your chance of securing a job? It’s difficult to enter employment from any angle, so why not try with a subject you enjoy?

The concept of standing by what you love despite the risks is dismissed by some – namely disapproving parents and teachers – but I believe it to be more sensible than focusing solely on a job.

Having a genuine interest in something can’t be faked and it’s the surest way to succeed. As Steve Jobs famously said, “the only way to do great work is to love what you do”.

In the long term, deciding to study the subject of your choice is generally more beneficial. Simple factors such as a person’s happiness and sense of fulfilment are overlooked in this argument, even though they are largely affected by career choices. These factors aren’t just based on income, either - studies have shown that there is little correlation between people’s salaries and their job satisfaction.

The fact is there are few reasons not to study what you genuinely want to. Achieving in the subject area that appeal to you is always possible and if you don’t do it, other people will. I believe you have to make the right decisions for yourself, because no argument against this will counteract your regrets when you see people of the same age and ability as you excelling in your dream job.

‘Be realistic’ says Kerry Provenzano

University is all about doing something you love, right? Well, not quite. Choosing to study something you are passionate about might not be as beneficial as you think.

When you study at university essentially you are making an investment: one worth up to (and sometimes over) £30,000. That’s a lot of money. For Currency Converter click here

You don’t have to know much about investments to know that the purpose of them is to make a profit. Your degree is a long term investment in which you are profited with knowledge. However, investing money that will someday need to be paid back means that your profit needs to be financial, not just academic.

So if you are naturally gifted with numbers but have a real passion for travel, opting to study geography at degree level might be a mistake. You may find you aren’t quite sure what to do with your degree once you graduate, and find yourself knowing you’re capable of the mathematical jobs you see advertised, but have no qualification to prove it.

There is a difference between your interests and your career strengths. If you think you could really crack the world of modern art then great, but if art is just something you enjoy on a weeknight, perhaps reconsider your choice to study fine art.

If you are currently choosing a degree course, or thinking of changing your course, my advice to you is simple: don’t confuse your hobby with your career prospects. Play to your strengths, not your passions. If you are lucky enough to have the two overlap then great. But bear in mind that with the right job there will always be time for the things you enjoy, regardless of whether you studied them at degree level or not.

While results from the test should not be the sole basis for choosing the stream after SSC, taking career guidance test will be of great helping hand.

Careerfutura recommends these Tips for Choosing right career path after SSC:

1. Choose a scientifically designed Career Guidance Test.
2. Choose a test that matches your abilities with the stream and not just personality or your interests.
3. Seek advice from Expert career counselor who will guide you for the best stream and options within.

1. Choose a scientifically designed Career Guidance Test.

Students and parents can learn more about what we do and how we do it, click here for more information.

2. Choose a test that matches your abilities with the stream and not just personality or your interests.

Though it is said that choose a career which interests you more, but it is always a wise decision to check, does your abilities permit for the same or not?

Unfortunately, many students give more importance to their interest and some tests are out there that gives advice on the basis of student’s interest and personality only. The ideal way is to match your interest, personality and your abilities.

3. Seek advice from an expert career counselor.

Just by giving test is not important. What you need is an expert career counselor who can brief the results and guide you in choosing the correct stream after SSC.

Students and parents need to be wise and ask questions about the career assessment tests and how it is going to help them in making the most important life decision. What stream to choose after SSC?

The industry supports more than 10 million people directly or indirectly. This figure is estimated to triple in the coming decade.

Telecom Jobs poised to grow

India is the second largest wireless network in the world, with a teledensity of 77%. Currently, there are over 900 million mobile subscribers. Of the many new technologies in the telecom arena, 4GLTE (long-term evolution) represents the present and the future.

The expected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) is around 20% in the coming few years. The FDI in telecom sector was US$12,889 million between April 2000 and December 2013.

The mobile advertising market itself is estimated to reach Rs 3,000 crore by 2016. The mobile gaming market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 24% and reach an estimated Rs 18 billion. India is at the threshold of a broadband data boom with the evolution of broadband mobile data based on 4GLTE technology.

The telecom sector is a huge employer of engineers with graduate and postgraduate qualifications. Career opportunities are plenty in areas including network deployment and management, operations and maintenance and network optimisation.

The industry supports more than 10 million people directly or indirectly. This figure is estimated to triple in the coming decade with a substantial chunk of opportunities in the areas of sales, marketing, finance, customer service and support.

Employers in this industry expect students to be `industry ready’ when they are recruited. On the technical side, proficiency is expected in the application of their knowledge.

In marketing and customer service, what is expected is a thorough knowledge of customer needs and the ability to match those needs.

There is an increasing emphasis on soft skills and interpersonal excellence even from those with knowledge in core technology backgrounds.

In a highly volatile and competitive telecom sector which is constantly changing, the employers do not have the inclination, resources and time to recruit a student and then impart training.

There is undeniably a perceptible gap between the practical and real-time needs of the industry. There is a lacuna in practical inputs that are required in the telecom network and its overall management. There is thus a gap between knowledge and skill sets on the one hand and industry expectations on the other.

Communication design is the practice of planning and shaping a message in content, form and delivery. Communication designers craft effective and expressive ways to share ideas with others, using an approach focusing on both problem-solving and persuasion.

Communication design is a both a broad term and field. It potentially encompasses a number of design practices, including information design, information architecture, advertising and marketing. Communication design is about message and effect; it focuses on touching people through transmission of ideas. Therefore communication design comes with a responsibility to compassionately understand the recipient’s existing perceptions and systems of beliefs, while designing solutions that fulfill the sender’s goals in sharing his/her ideas.

Definitions of Engineering Design on the Web:

The systematic and creative application of scientific and mathematical principles to practical ends such as the design, manufacture, and operation of efficient and economical structures, machines, processes, and systems.
www.doe.mass.edu/frameworks/scitech/2001/resources/glossary.html

Engineering Design is the creative, iterative and often open-ended process of conceiving and developing components, systems and processes. Design requires the integration of engineering, basic and mathematical sciences. A designer works under constraints, taking into account economic, health and safety, social and environmental factors, codes of practice and applicable laws.

Before that we will have a look at Who is Mentor and what do Mentors do?

No matter what we do in life, there are many times we need some help and support from someone we respect. A mentor is someone who provides help and advice to a less experienced person. Mentors can be male and female, older and younger. Mentors have real world experience; they can provide you with useful knowledge and insights.

Here is a nice article from forbes.com which I would like to share for all Career-minded women.

You can learn from their vast experience: I once worked for a very large, global company that was very male-dominated. One of my mentor’s was a woman several levels above me whom I greatly admired. She helped me learn and then navigate through the layers of company politics so I could gain more support for my projects, prove myself, and then be considered for larger and more difficult jobs. Navigating the political labyrinth at work would have been almost impossible to accomplish without the help of my mentor.

They will help you define your career goals: As a career coach and mentor/trainer to more than 1,700 women over my 20+ year career, I’ve found women are much more successful when they have a mentor to help them define their career goals and objectives. If you don’t know where you want to go, how will you determine how to get their? A mentor will help you put a clear plan in place to ensure you achieve your career aspirations efficiently and quickly. As one happy mentee commented, “My mentor helped me clarify my career aspirations and figure out the actions I needed to take to achieve my career goals.”

They improve your accountability: A mentor brings accountability and this breed’s responsibility. I’ve found that within a very short period of time, my mentees fall into the habit of holding themselves accountable for completing their action items. They learn from me, as their mentor (and I learn lots from them!), and then the excitement of completing tasks and seeing the results motivates them even more to hold themselves accountable and strive for achievements they previously thought were impossible.

They will keep private conversations confidential: I once became a mentor to a woman who, previously, had never had mentors. The problem she ran into is that because she had no one else to speak with, she had been discussing difficult issues with her manager and even with a colleague, whom she thought she could trust. This backfired on her because some of the information she had discussed with her manager ended up in her annual performance appraisal. In addition, the co-worker used some of the private information against her in order to gain a promotion. This situation underscores the need to have mentors you trust and with whom you can discuss confidential information to gain different perspectives and ideas.

Today, IT pros must guarantee that their cloud-focused skills are resume-ready. And just what are those skills?

Here is the list of 10 Skills IT Pros Need for Cloud Computing

1. Business and financial skills

The intersection of business and technology is always an overarching concern, but it is especially so when it comes to cloud-based computing.

2. Technical skills

With the cloud, organizations can streamline their IT resources, offloading much of day-to-day systems and application management. But that doesn’t mean IT abdicates all responsibility. There’s a need for language skills to build applications that can run quickly on the Internet.

3. Enterprise architecture and business needs analysis

Cloud computing requires that IT pros cross disciplines, especially where service-oriented architecture comes into play.

4. Project management skills

Organizations must not let the flexibility of the cloud lead to missed deadlines or amorphous goals. That could negate the cloud cost advantage.

5. Contract and vendor negotiation skills

To deal with service-level agreements—and the problems involved when those SLAs are breached—IT pros need experience with contract and vendor negotiations.

6. Security and compliance

IT professionals dealing with the cloud must have a firm grasp of security protocols and the regulatory mandates related to their industries, both within and without the United States.

7. Data integration and analysis skills

IT pros may not be data scientists, but to take advantage of big data, they do need to help data scientists hook up big data, internal ERP, data warehouse and other data systems, and work with the business side to make effective use of big data.

8. Mobile app development and management

Organizations need to think about what kind of mobile experience they are offering to customers via the cloud and how they would like to improve that down the line.

As enterprise cloud computing evolves, it is important to add two more skills to the list:

9. Knowledge of open hybrid clouds

IT is not homogeneous, and neither should your cloud computing model be. IT pros need to understand how to build and extend their companies’ cloud computing infrastructure in a way that is open.

10. Understanding of OpenStack

In order to build the kind of flexible, secure, interoperable cloud infrastructure mentioned above, IT pros must have a strong understanding of the technology required to make it so. OpenStack is a key component. OpenStack, a collaboration of developers and cloud computing technologists, comprises a series of projects delivering various components for a cloud infrastructure solution.

What other skills do IT professionals need to have in order to enable their organizations to successfully tap into the benefits of cloud computing? Are there any IT skills that the cloud is making obsolete? We welcome your insight in the comments section.
