Most students put in a lot of effort into their preparation in order to score and perform well. Students have a common goal in mind i.e. to pass with good grades and if possible even with flying colours. However, the exam brings with it the age old excitement as well as a new sense of anxiety as students prepare to face the HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) Board Examination that pave the way into pursuing courses that they desire and to gain admission into a reputed institute to lay the foundation of their career.

The HSC Exams are conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE). This year the HSC Exam Time Table 2014 has been announced earlier. Thus re-leaving students of their distress. Students need not fret because the MSBSHSE has finally announced the HSC Exam Time Table 2014 , so students can now plan their preparation accordingly and with ease. Therefore here is the HSC Exam Timetable 2014.

Just like the class tests that students give during the entire year, for teachers and parents alike to assess the amount the child has learnt and to find out the progress of the child.

Similarly, the boards are here bringing with it the age old anxiousness and nervousness or rather the feeling of butterflies in the stomach, all in the anticipation of the exams. Thinking of the board examinations easily sends shivers down the spine because the main aim for most students at the end of the day is to score well and if possible pass with flying colours. All this in order to gain admission easily into the desired courses and colleges of interest.

Well the SSC (Secondary School Certificate Exams are conducted by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE). This time around the SSC Exam Time Table 2014 has been announced earlier this year. Hence re-leaving students of their distress. Students should not fret because the MSBSHSE has finally announced the SSC Exam Time Table 2014, so students can now plan their preparation accordingly and with ease. Therefore here is the SSC Exam Timetable 2014.

Preparing for Board Exams is like preparing or any other ordinary class test. If students have been paying attention to the topics taught in class cracking the ICSE examinations would be easier. Therefore it is essential that students treat the board exams like an ordinary exam. This will assist in the students in their exam preparation. If you are seeking quick tips that can help you perform well and excel then you have come to the right place. Here are a few useful tips that can help you in your preparation for the exam.

Tip1. Health Matters: for your brain to function at its optimum level it is absolutely necessary for one to eat a nutritious diet, exercising the entire body especially in the morning and sleep sufficiently. By exercising the body even your mind is exercised. Apart from this getting enough of sleep is important because just as your body requires rest so also your mind requires rest to be able to function effectively. All these aspects affect your attention span and play a vital role in your ability to learn new information.

Tip 2. Refer and Solve previous years question papers: to get an idea about the paper and the type of questions asked you need to not only refer to previous years question papers but also solve them. This activity will help you to identify which topics or chapters are important and the distribution of marks for the important topics will also be highlighted nonetheless. Solving question papers with an examination setting will increase the speed of answering the questions. Remember that the more papers you solve the better prepared you will be for the exam.

Tip 3. Get your Basics Right: Make sure your basics are strong and ensure that you get all you queries clarified as without either your chances to score well are slim. Remember that most teachers prefer if students ask questions as this lets them know that the student understands what is being taught in class. If your basics are clear solving those dreadful problems will be fun and easy to resolve and you just might enjoy solving problems.

Tip 4. Practice: for subjects that require Arithmetic calculations like Mathematics, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Physics and Chemistry the best way to prepare is to practice, practice and then practice some more. But before you solve question papers it is preferable to finish and master the problems given in the text book as well as the solved examples, self study books and the sample papers in the self study along with the solved examples, class problems and problems given in tuitions too. Once you have completed all these exercises then you can proceed to solving the problems in the question papers. Therefore, “practice as if you are the worst, but perform as if you are the best !”

Tip 5. Time Management: students need to use the time given to prepare for the examinations effectively if they wish to score well. If students are prepared before hand for the examinations the exam usually goes well and the chances for students to score well also increases.

Tip 6. Know which topics to learn when: don’t learn a new topic just before the exam or spend time on subjects that are difficult, instead revise what you have already done and perfect these topics.

Tip 7. Prepare Drawings or Diagrams and Label them: if possible prepare drawings that highlight the main points discussed in the topic. You can either list the points down or form a hierarchy based on the important points. For topics that discuss a process of things students can either create a diagram that shows the different processes if there isn’t one or it is preferable to refer to the diagrams that are there in the text itself. Students can also use flow charts to highlight the various processes involved. Ensure that you learn these diagrams as a simple picture can give a fair explanation of the topic and it helps in remembering topics better. When learning diagrams ensure that you learn their names as students are required to label the diagrams in the examination. This works best for subjects that have diagrams to be remembered such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography.

Tip 8. Prepare Charts: for subjects like Mathematics, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Physics and Chemistry that have formulas or chemical compositions to remember preparing charts is the best way to remember such material. Students can also ask their professors to give them the chemical composition charts. But if one wishes to remember formulas the best way is to practice as many problems as they can that require the use of these formulas. This will help students to remember the formulas better.

Tip 9. Subject Wise:

Physics: this paper has 3 major sections namely Modern Physics, Optics Marks and Electricity Marks. The topics that come under Diagrams and Derivatives are challenging therefore pay more attention to these topics. In Diagrams the circuit diagrams are important so these topics too need to be prepared well. Apart from these even applied numericals are important topics and are easier too. Also questions that are based on laboratory experiments are important so also are their circuit diagrams thus ensure that you learn these circuit diagrams. Learn the formulas well by practicing problems that require the use of these formulas.

Biology: ensure that you learn your diagrams along with their labels because they comprise of a good percentage of the marks. Additionally students need to draw their diagrams neatly along with their labels to attain good marks.

Mathematics: to minimize the silly mistakes that most students tend to make it is imperative that you read the question paper very carefully. Students should try and come up with short cuts in order to complete the paper. Ensure that you are clear about the formulas and remember them.

Chemistry: make sure that your basics are good and ensure that you learn the chemical compositions chart properly. You never know when this information will come in handy. Physical Chemistry Numericals is an important topic therefore, ensure that you prepare it well. Students can refer to the NCERT Books and prepare the syllabus thoroughly from these books.

Following these simple tips will boost your performance and help you to excel in the examination because you have prepared well for the examination. So, “practice as if you are the worst but perform as if you are the best”.

There are a few guidelines that students can follow in an attempt to answer the examinations well to attain good results. These general guidelines will help even an average student to do well if they make an honest effort to follow them. These guidelines can be divided into 2 categories namely Before the Examination and In the Examination Hall.

Before the Examination:

Tip 1. Prepare a Check List: students should prepare a checklist of all the stationary and the documents they may require for the exam before leaving the house. Once the items have been placed in the bag this same list should be rechecked before entering the Examination Hall.

Tip 2. Revise topics: students should revise only those topics that they have already studied instead of attempting to learn new material as this affects their performance in the examination.

Tip 3. Pay Attention: if students are able to revise while paying attention to the topics that their classmates or friends are revising before the examination it will help students to score well because there have been times when these same topics have come in the examination.

Tip 4. Stay Calm: students should ensure that they don’t panic before the examination instead they should remain calm. Panicking will do no one any good but will render them victims to bad results. To stay calm they should breathe easy and close their eyes for about 5 minutes, this will assist their performance in the examination.

In the Examination Hall:

Tip 1. Keep your Stationary Ready: it’s time to remove your checklist to make sure that you have everything that you need for the examination.

Tip 2. If you have Blanked Out: in a blanking out situation the best thing to do is not to panic but breath and calm down. Then close your eyes and try to remember everything you have studied for about 5 to 10 minutes. If the blanking out is question specific then follow the same procedure but this time try to remember whatever you have studied about the topic. Once you recollect everything then you can start writing.

Tip 3. Read the Question Paper: it is important for students to read the questions carefully before attempting them because many a time’s students answer the questions incorrectly.

Tip 4. Choosing Questions: for subjects like Physics and Chemistry which comprise of both theory as well as numericals it is better to solve questions that have numericals in them rather than answering only theoretical questions as the chances of doing well are higher.

Tip 5. Number your Questions and Answers correctly: in your answer sheet make sure you number the answers according to the attempted question from the question paper.

Tip 6. Stick to the Order of the Questions Asked: it is preferable for students to answer the questions in the order of the questions asked in the question paper because this reduces the examiners work. That is why it is preferable for students to leave space for questions that they aren’t sure off or think they may be able to complete later. Students should realize that they can always come back to the questions that they missed or they were unsure of, at the time.

Tip 7. Avoid Silly Mistakes: students usually make silly mistakes like numbering the questions and the answers incorrectly. At times students haven’t read the questions properly and they realize that the answer they have written is wrong so avoid making silly mistakes resulting in wastage of time.

Tip 8. Draw and Label the Diagrams: it is preferable to draw diagrams for questions as and when applicable. Students should ensure that their diagrams are labeled appropriately. This helps you to recall the information that you have studied and also serves as a blue print to all the points discussed. This activity helps examiners to understand the matter that you plan to cover under the question and also helps students to not miss anything out.

Tip 9. Limit the Answers: ensure that you write answers on the bases of the marks allotted to the questions to minimize the time taken to complete the paper.

Tip 10. Rough Work: Students should be careful to do the rough work if required in the answer sheet on the right hand corner and keep it neat.

Tip 11. Don’t Write on the Question Paper: Remember to refrain from writing anything on the question paper or your marks will be cut on the assumption that you were copying right through the examination. Students can at the very least tick mark the questions that they wish to answer or the completed questions. If you insist on writing something then at the most you can only make a note of the final answers to the problems that you have attempted; especially for papers like Mathematics, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Physics and Chemistry.

Students should follow these simple tips as this will help them to perform well. All the best!

Preparing for boards is just like preparing for any other test or examination, the sooner students realize this the easier it will be for them to prepare for the examinations. This will automatically reduce the stress that students experience while preparing for the examinations. Just like other board exams even the CBSE board exam has tips that can prove helpful in preparing for the exam.

Remember that most teachers prefer if students ask questions as this lets them know that the student is understanding what is being taught in class.

Mathematics: to minimize the silly mistakes that most students tend to make it is imperative that you read the question paper vary carefully. Students should try and come up with short cuts in order to complete the paper. Ensure that you are clear about the formulas and remember them.

Chemistry: make sure that your basics are good and ensure that you learn the chemical compositions chart properly. You never know when this information will come in handy. Physical Chemistry Numericals is an important topic therefore ensure that you prepare it well. Students can refer to the NCERT Books and prepare the syllabus thoroughly from these books.

Most students these days usually don’t score well even though they answer all the questions, this is due to several factors that aren’t within our control as students. Therefore knowing the factors that are within our control becomes very important. The things that are in the students control are the time given to prepare for the examinations, the way you learn, understand, recall and reproduce the matter studied and the way you answer the paper.

Tip 1. Time Management: students need to use the time given to prepare for the examinations effectively if they wish to score well. If students are prepared before hand for the examinations the exam usually goes well and the chances for students to score well also increases.

Tip 2. The Learning Techniques Used: if students make use of memory improvement techniques such as Mnemonics this will help them to prepare the matter well thus increasing the quality of the answers written. With proper memorizing techniques the matter will be remembered well and the student will be able to recollect the matter studied as well. Apart from this if students use charts, flow charts, diagrams and prepare hierarchical diagrams to memorize points on the basis of their importance this will by default improve their grasping power thus the outcome of the examination will be good with the marks that they deserve.

Tip 3. Presentation: the way you present your answer sheets plays an important role because it eases the work of the professors that check the papers. Therefore most teachers insist on writing the papers neatly and highlighting the important points if there is some time remaining. Organizing the matter is another aspect that adds to the presentation of the paper.

Tip 4. Organize the Information: most paper checkers look for the way the student organizes their matter while preparing for the examinations. They realize this by the way the student answers the questions, because if the information is written well the information is usually organized. Since, the information is organized it is probably why some students score well while others do not. Therefore, students should try and organize the matter studied as this will be reflected in the answer sheet thus the examiners feel good to check such papers.

Tip 5.

Tip 6. Scoring: the examiners usually give marks on the basis of the points covered. Even if students mention the various points via the use of diagram and it they are unable to recall all the information discussed in the point they still give marks based on the points mentioned. For instance if a question has 5 points and 5 marks are allotted to that question then students usually get all the marks if the points are correct. This activity also indicates the way the information is organized and the examiners are more than happy to correct such papers.

Tip 7. Answering Questions: in your answer sheet make sure you number your answers correctly. Students should stick to the order of the question paper when answering the questions. It is preferable to answer the questions according to the question numbers given in the question paper therefore it is preferable to leave space for questions that students aren’t sure off. Students can always come back to the questions that they missed or they were unsure of at the time, this reduces the examiners work. When choosing questions try to solve questions that have numerical in them rather than answering theoretical questions as the chances of doing well are higher. This holds true for subjects like Physics and chemistry which comprise of both theory as well as numerical. Make sure that you read the questions carefully before attempting them because many a times students make silly mistakes like numbering the questions and the answers incorrectly. At times students haven’t read the questions properly and they realize that their answer is wrong. Ensure that you write answers on the bases of the marks allotted to the questions to minimize the time taken to complete the paper. Students should be careful to do the rough work if required in the answer sheet on the right hand corner and keep it neat. Remember to refrain from writing anything on the question paper or you marks will be cut on the assumption that you were copying the whole time. If you insist on writing something then at the most you can make a note of the answer that you have got especially for papers like Mathematics, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Physics and Chemistry.

The exam tips mentioned earlier are the factors that are usually within our control as students therefore paying attention to these points is very important if students wish to score well as these are general exam tips that most institutes follow. Nevertheless, the information given is institute specific and is to the best of the writers knowledge. Therefore, it is always preferable to enquire about these points with your professor as your teachers at times correct the papers of the students hence they will be able to give students proper guidelines for the same.

Students need to realize that they don’t have any control over the marks they obtain as they are not the ones who correct their papers. Apart form this there are several factors that come into play when marks are given, to name a few the kind of person checking the paper, the mood of the professor after correcting the previous papers and the answers given by these students before he / she comes to your paper etc. are some of the other factors that are not in the student’s control. Another aspect that student’s need to keep in mind is as long as you have done your best and you put your trust in God, everything is going to be just fine.

No matter which examination it is, preparing for it like an ordinary exam is preferable as it makes the preparation easier. Just like any other examination even for the SSC Board Exam there are tips that can aid students in their preparation.

Tip1. Pay Attention to your Health: for your brain to function at its optimum level it is absolutely necessary for one to eat a nutritious diet, exercising the entire body especially in the morning and sleep sufficiently. By exercising the body even your mind is exercised. Apart from this getting enough of sleep is important because just as your body requires rest so also your mind requires rest to be able to function effectively. All these aspects affect your attention span and play a vital role in your ability to learn new information.

Tip 2. Use Memory improvement techniques such as Mnemonics: several studies have been conducted to test the effectiveness of the use or Mnemonics. The findings suggest that using mnemonics while studying helps the information to get registered faster and in a fun way. To learn the effective potential of these memorizing techniques it is preferable to implement them right at the start of term. Nonetheless the use of mnemonics during the preparation for the examination has proved effective in remembering information. Some examples of mnemonics are acronyms, rhymes, acoustic, method of Loci etc. Each mnemonic can aid memorization of different study material hence the types have been derived.

Tip 3. Preparation for Languages: the best way to prepare for languages is by reading material in the different languages. This activity helps to understand passages of comprehension better and also helps students to write essays. For English it is preferable to refer to Wren & Martin. This book is a perfect guide for improving your grammar, essay writing skills as well as your comprehension skills because it has exercises and examples for each topic. It also comes with a key that you can use to verify if your answers are correct. Therefore it is preferable to have a copy of the Wren & Martin along with the key if possible. A word of caution don’t look at the answers directly as you will be cheating yourself and you will not learn anything nor will you improve you command over the language which is essential in today’s day and age.

Tip 4.

Tip 5. Practice: for subjects like that require Arithmetic calculations like Mathematics, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Physics and Chemistry the best way to prepare is to practice, practice and then practice some more. But before you solve question papers it is preferable to finish and master the problems given in the text book, self study books and the sample papers in the self study, class problems and problems given in tuition. Once you have completed all these exercises then you can practice solving the problems in the question papers. Make sure your basics are strong and ensure that you get all you queries clarified as without either you chances to score well are slim. Remember that most teachers prefer if students ask questions as this lets them know that the student is understanding what is being taught in class. Therefore, “practice as if you are the worst, but perform as if you are the best”.

Tip 6. Develop a Plan: it is important to allot time to different subjects so that you can study better. Topics that are difficult to comprehend require more time in comparison to topics that are easy to understand. You may have a list of things to do but in order to get all the work done in time, it requires planning. Creating a time table ensures that all the tasks are done and results in more topics being covered in minimum amount of time.

Tip 7. Avoid Procrastination: it is absolutely necessary that you don’t put off tasks that need to be completed, as you will not have done the task well nor would you have learnt anything. Students tend to put off topics due to the difficulty level. But they forget that although these topics seem difficult now; but once understood are easy, more fun and most likely easy to score in too.

Tip 8. Keep Distractions away: if you wish to perform well then it is essential for one to stay away from distractions as this will interrupt your study time and work. Distractions such as spending too much of time on social networking sites and phones should be minimized.

Tip 9. Give Preliminary Examinations: though it may sound as a waste of time, it isn’t as it serves as a mock examination. It tells you where you stand and the amount of preparation that is still required. Remember to start preparing right at the beginning of Term as this will give you enough of time to prepare for the Preliminary examinations thus preparing you for the board examinations.

Tip 10. Study Tips: apart from Mnemonics, students can also make notes or highlight the important points. Students can also prepare drawings or learn diagrams, prepare charts or flow diagrams to help them memorize the matter well.

Note Making and Note Taking: when a topic is taught in class it is preferable if students listen more rather than make notes as students learn better when the topics is taught, but they can make a note of only the important points. When making notes either students can use stick ons or prepare notes in the text itself. It is preferable to make notes or place stick ons beside the topic studied. After reading a paragraph make a note of all the points discussed.

Highlighting important Points: some students prefer to underline important points while others prefer to use highlighting markers for the points that seem important to them.

Prepare Drawings or Diagrams: if possible prepare drawings that highlight the main points discussed in the topic. You can either list the points down or form a hierarchy based on the important points. For topics that discuss a process of things students can either create a diagram that shows the different processes if there isn’t one or it is preferable to refer to the diagrams that are there in the text itself. Students can also use flow charts to highlight the various processes involved. Ensure that you learn these diagrams as a simple picture can give a fair explanation of the topic thus it helps in remembering topics better. This works best for subjects that have diagrams to be remembered such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Geography.
