These individuals share a common confusion in whether there is any difference between Computer Science (B.C.S.) and Information Technology (IT). They are all of the notion that there isn’t any sort of difference between the 2 as the theory behind each is quite similar, hence these courses are easily mistaken to be same. Although that may be the case, it is not entirely true. Here’s why?

Even though the subject matter of each is relatively similar, the former is but a mixture and application of Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering and Complexity Theory or Algorithms to understand and/or model information, while the latter is a mixture and application of Programming, Hardware Administration, Software Administration, Networking, Network Security and Technical Support. In a nut shell, “Computer Science is based primarily on computation, while Information Technology is the management of computers” (Techvyom).

Computer Science deals with the representation and processing of information using algorithmic techniques, data structures, computational complexity theory, distributed computation, parallel computation, VLSI, machine learning, computational biology, computational geometry, information theory, cryptography, quantum computation, computational number theory and algebra, program semantics and verification, automata theory and the study of randomness. The theory of Computer Science comprises of the evolution and development of models of computation, programming methodologies and the expression of computation; commonly done through the use of programming languages like C++ or Java (Techvyom).

Aside from these aspects it also deals with building software and systems with the specification and assessment of their properties. The purpose of Computation is to automate and solve real world problems. Computer Science defines how problems can be modeled and represented abstractly, how efficient and verifiable solutions can be derived and expressed and it also describes the process and methodology involved to take a project from the initial problem stage to arriving to a solution (Techvyom).

Computer Science application and research combines information management, computation and system design with other domain specific areas such as Engineering, Science, Arts and Mathematics. The domain specific research deals with Robotics and Control, Machine Vision and Human-Machine Interaction, Geographic Information Systems, Music Technology, Finance, Media Studies so on and so forth. The combination of degrees and domain knowledge expertise in other disciplines with Computer Science opens a wealth of employment opportunities.

On the other hand Information Technology is the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware (Techvyom).

Information technology (IT) or information and communication technology (ICT) is the technology required for information processing. In particular the use of electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit and securely retrieve information from anywhere, anytime (Techvyom).

Information technology is learning to use computers in business or in practical application. While most schools require at least some basic programming courses for information technology, they don’t become programmers. It is simply so they understand, at a very basic level, what is involved behind the scenes (Techvyom).

To sum up; Computer Science is learning to program applications and the theory behind that (programming and its languages), while Information technology is mainly learning to use technology in business (application based by users).

Based on all these aspects we can conclude that Computer Science and Information Technology, although similar in the subject matter are entirely different from each other due to the differing objectives and their usage. Hope this article cleared the confusion that you may have had at the beginning about Computer Science and Information Technology. In hope that their career prospects will be good, is probably the main reason for individuals to perform well both in academics as well as the entrances.

While all this seems to be well planned it doesn’t give you the assurance that you will get the course that interests you because there are lots of factors that are involved. Right from the number of seats available in the institute, to the cut off marks, meeting the eligibility criteria, the number of applicant’s competing for the same course as you so on and so forth. In view of these aspects, gathering information about courses that aren’t so popular just might be the right way to go if you have all the necessary information to make an informed decision. Therefore answering questions like How to choose a college?, How to make career decisions? Or for that matter what are the Career prospects in the field of Engineering? Or what kinds of Job Opportunities are available in the market? Or What the Job Profile of a Civil Engineer is like? Are questions that most people tend to over look because their focus is mainly on the present instead of a long term bases. Therefore gathering information is so important, especially because the cooperate world is constantly changing due to the rapid development in technology.

Nonetheless, the most popular courses that aspiring Engineers tend to opt for are Computer Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Civil or Environment Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aeronautical or Aerospace, Aircraft Maintenance, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Biotechnology. Nevertheless the options available to Engineering aspirants are plenty. Of the many course available, some of the “core branches” of Engineering are Chemical, Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering. Apart from these some of the popular engineering streams are Aeronautical or Aerospace, Aircraft Maintenance, Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Bio-Medical, Electronics and Telecommunication, Civil or Environmental, Chemical, Industrial and Production, Metallurgical and Materials, Automobile, Manufacturing, Instrumentation, Marine, Mining, Metallurgical, Agricultural, Biotechnology, Applied Engineering Science, Textile, Polymer and Information Technology, Petroleum Engineering.

Computer Science offers fresh graduate’s tremendous job opportunities in the I.T. sector. The career opportunities require engineers with analytical abilities. Aspiring candidates should have a strong base in basic programming languages like java, mathematics and basic semiconductor physics. Candidates who are passionate about database management and application development are perfect for this stream.

Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering or Environmental Engineering deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings.
Chemical engineering is meant for those students who are interested in developing bio-fuels, modeling new ores or even devices. These students should have a strong base in organic or inorganic chemistry. Apart from these skills even the basics of mathematics and physics are important. Chemical engineers are chiefly involved in the renewable energy sector, nuclear power sector, and industrial metallurgy sector. Ensuring safety and control for all the manufacturing plants is another important responsibility.

The Mechanical Engineering discipline applies the principles of physics and material sciences for the analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical systems. It deals with the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production and operation of machines and tools. A mechanical engineer can enter in to chemical, manufacturing units, oil refineries, defense sector, and automobile sector. Mechanical engineer can seek employment in the government sector where companies like BHEL and ISRO recruit graduates.

Electronics Engineering or Electrical Engineering is another popular choice. It is a discipline where non-linear and active electrical components such as electron tubes, and semiconductor devices, especially transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, are utilized to design electronic circuits, devices and systems, typically include passive electrical components and based on printed circuit boards.
Biotechnology is a comparatively new course and quite similar to Chemical Engineering. This course deals with mass transfer and fluid mechanics. Subjects like chemistry, biology and physics are fundamental to this stream therefore these subjects need to be strong to excel in this stream. The biotech inventions are widely use in agriculture and allied sectors, health and sanitation, environment and biodiversity conservation, dairy and fisheries, integrated farming and pharmaceutical industry.

Many B.Tech graduate’s wishing to pursue higher education are faced with a common dilemma of choosing an M.B.A. over an M.Tech course and you are no exception. When it comes to planning for a career often the question arises whether an M.B.A. is the right way to go or would an M.Tech suffice. Although this seems to be a simple decision it is not so. There are several factors that play a vital role in choosing a career. Of these factors the main one is based on the individual’s interest while the information that one possess also has its effects on a career along with the market opportunity available in a particular field. Often the confusion is a result of not having enough information and the lack of one’s awareness of the interest areas.

The best way to resolve this conflict is first and for most to identify the interest areas, awareness about one’s own capabilities, academic qualifications and more importantly to gather information about the desired course. If you are looking for information about courses and career prospects it is preferable to visit www.careerfutura.com as all this information is available on our website and is considered a wise approach. But before that let’s explore these two fields and find out the reason for the differing popularity in these courses.

While both M.Tech and M.B.A. are good options with equal opportunities, offering good placements and a stable professional career, choosing one over the other is therefore a task.

An M.Tech offers one opportunities in the research and development and in technical fields, on the other hand an M.B.A. opens avenues in sectors such as banking, finance, consultancy and other areas, which may not involve any technical work. Like other course both M.B.A. and M.Tech each have an umbrella of courses that mainly deal with a specialized field. For more information you can always log on to www.careerfutura.com.

Recent trends indicate that most students prefer an M.B.A. over an M.Tech because an M.B.A. creates a promising career and an M.Tech provides employment in avenues across various industries leading to extremely lucrative and well settled careers. Due to the difficulty level associated with an M.Tech several students often opt for an M.B.A. rather than an M.Tech.

The prominent employers of M.Tech candidates are The Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Hindustan Aeronautic Limited (HAL), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

M.B.A. aspirants need to appear for various Entrance Examinations such as CAT if one seeks admission in renowned institute such as the 13 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) along with other premier B-schools while M.Tech aspirants need to clear various Engineering entrances like JEE, GATE etc.

So if one wishes to build a career in the management field then an M.B.A. would be preferable and if you desire to have a career in the technical field then and M.Tech is a wise choice. Hope this article has given you an insight in to these courses and a rough idea about the kind of opportunities available in these sectors. Remember that factors like your interest, abilities, information gathered and the market opportunities determine the probability of success and should be the bases for making career decisions. An interaction with a career guidance professional can help you to filter down on the choices.

A common notion amongst commerce students is the confusion about whether B.B.A., B.B.M., B.M.S. and B.B.S. are completely different courses. If you too are puzzled by the same question then you are no exception hence, you’ve come to the right place. To resolve the confusion that B.B.A., B.B.M., B.M.S. and B.B.S. are completely different courses is the main objective for writing this article. Well like you I’ve gone back and forth in this respect but based on the information I have gathered so far this is what I have concluded. The key differences in all these courses are the types of courses, the objective, subjects studied and the specialisations in each of these courses there are some commonalities between these course such as the duration, nature of these course, curriculum with the core subjects, skills , degree status and the specialisations.

Although there are minor differences between all these courses it is essential that we identify the commonalities first to help us understand these differences better; therefore, before we get down to the nitty-gritty of these differences, let’s review the commonalities between them. For instance the duration for all these courses is 3 years and they are all Under Graduate courses. Another similarity is that they are designed to provide a basic education in commerce and to set the groundwork for pursuing higher education in commerce such as M.B.A. degrees or the various specializations available. Apart from this even the curriculum for all these courses is quite similar, i.e. the core subjects studied are Accounting, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Organizational Behavior, Communication Skills, Operations Management, International Trade and Business Law which are common to all these courses. These courses were designed to teach students various Business and Management Skills that are required in any company or organization and to equip students with such skills keeping the future prospective in mind. This is done because most Management institutes or reputed B – Schools assess its applicants on these skills before accepting them for admissions in to their various Master’s Programs. Each of these courses have specializations. Now that we are clear about the commonalities, understanding the differences will be relatively easier.

B.B.A. is a Bachelor’s in Business Administration: as the name suggests it deals with Administrative studies. It is basically designed to give students a basic knowledge of all the functions that are involved in a company for example marketing, finance, human resource management, etc. the subjects that are studied are Accounting, Business law and Ethics, Economics, Financial management, Human resource management, Management Information Systems, Marketing, Operations management, Organizational behavior. Quantitative techniques (business statistics, financial mathematics, operations research) and Strategic Management. It too has various specialisations namely Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Real Estate, Human Resource Management, International Business, Information technology, Legal management, Design Management, Management, Management information systems, Marketing, Operations management, Supply chain management, Public Relations, Aviation Management

B.B.M. is a Bachelor’s in Business Management: similarly the main focus is diverted to studies at a managerial level. It aims at developing the individual’s managerial skills and creating well rounded individuals by educating them in a range of diverse subject areas that provide an integrated view of managerial issues and be able to apply the knowledge imparted in real life situations. Some of the specializations in BBM are Finance, Operations Management, and Management Information Systems and so on.

B.M.S. is a Bachelor’s in Management Studies: this course concentrates mainly on analytical and logical oriented studies and to help students develop their analytical and logical skills that are required. Students can specialise in Marketing, Finance, HRM, Management of Services, Management of global Business & Tourism Management etc. The subjects that are studied are Finance & Cost Accounting, Industrial Law, Business Law, Computer Application in Business, Quantitative Methods for Business, Business Environment, Principles of Management, Production Management, Export – Import Procedures, Managerial Economics, Econometrics, International Finance etc .but may differ from college to college.

B.B.S. is a Bachelor’s in Business Studies: although it is fairly similar to the B.B.A. course but its focus is majorly in practical exposure rather than a theoretical study. In this degree various business courses are integrated with a realistic and industry-based focus in order to build sound business ideas within the aspirants. Aspirants can specialize in management, accounting, marketing and information systems.

Each of these courses usually have either 2 or 3 different subjects but the core subjects generally remain the same. Additionally, the subjects studied and the specialisations that are offered in either of these courses are all institute specific so they may differ. The 2 tables below will make the aspects discussed clearer.

Most students opt for a management course due to its popularity and the wide array of courses available to them. Due to the broad spectrum of specialisations available within this course there are opportunities for individuals from various fields if they wish to have a career in the Management sector. In this article we will be addressing the various reasons for the popularity of M.B.A. courses along with the different courses available under the Management umbrella.

Although there are several reasons as to the choice of most individuals being management, one of the main reasons for the popularity in the Management field is due to the development in technology fueling the emergence of several companies. In a nut shell the emergence of Businesses generating Employment in various sectors has resulted in the variety of courses that have emerged in this sector over the years. Career advancement, management expertise and increased earnings are perhaps the most common reasons for students pursuing a career in the Management field.

Aside from these aspects even the remuneration given with the incentives that one receives on top of the earnings of the individual are some other reasons that attract individuals to the management field. The management sector being a long standing one apart from offering good placements and a stable professional career even the job opportunities and not to mention the wide array of specializations available together make it a popular choice amongst management aspirants.

The management spectrum like any other course too has an umbrella of specialisations at its disposal. A Master of Business Administration provides you with a broad view of the functional areas of a business. The various courses offered under the broad spectrum of Management include Master of Business Administration (M.B.A), Master of Business Economics (M.B.E), Master of Business Management (M.B.M), Master of Business Studies (M.B.S), Master of Financial Services (M.F.S), Master of Hospital Administration (M.H.A), Masters of Hospital Management (MHM), Master of Hospitality Management (M.H.M), Master of Human Resource Management (M.H.R.M), Master of International Business (M.I.B), Master of Information Management (M.I.M), Master of Labour Management (M.L.M), Master of Marketing Management (M.M.M), Master of Management Program (M.M.P), Master of Management Studies (M.M.S), Masters of Personnel Management (MPM), Masters in Public Systems Management (M.P.S.M), Master of Tourism Administrations (M.T.A), Master of Tourism Management (M.T.M), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Masters in Construction Management, Masters in E – Business Management, Masters in Finance Management, Masters in International Business Management, Masters in Operations Management Masters in Product Management, Masters in Retail Management, Masters in Strategic Management.

Aside from Individual specializations you even have a combination of specializations such as Masters of Hospitality and Tourism Management (M.H.T.M), Master of Hospitality & Hotel Management (M.H.H.M), Master of Industrial Relation and Personal Management (MIR and PM), Master of Performance Management (MPM), Master of Personal Management and Industrial Relation (MPM and IR), Masters in Travel and Tourism Management, Master of Finance & Control (M.F.C).

For those students who prefer part time management course you can opt for Part Time M.B.A. Programs or go in for distance learning, you can also opt for an Executive M.B.A or various online M.B.A. programs. But remember that these courses are mostly taken up by working professionals who simply wish to enhance their Knowledge and aren’t considered equivalent to a Full Time or Regular M.B.A. degree obtained from a recognized Institute or University. Therefore it is preferable for students to opt for a University recognized degree course if you are a fresh graduate. Keeping this in mind an M.B.A. degree secured via a recognized institute or University is valid and thus increases ones chances of employment considerable because recruiters usually seek individuals with higher qualifications.

Nevertheless, you also have Post Graduate Diploma courses in the various specialisations mentioned earlier. The validity of Post Graduate Diplomas are similar to that of Part Time M.B.A. Programs or M.B.A. courses obtained via distance learning or for that matter even an Executive M.B.A or various online M.B.A. programs. So don’t be surprised if procuring a degree course is not possible on the bases of the above listed courses because they are like diplomas in the sense that they aren’t Full Time degrees such as a Masters in Business Management (MBM). Simply put if you wish to pursue a Ph.D. on the bases of a P.G.D.B.A. for instance you will not be able to, as you do not possess a Masters degree. So I strongly suggest if possible pursue a Master’s degree and increase your chances for better career opportunities.

For a detailed description of the M.B.A. programs visit our sister website way2k or you can even log on to careerfutura for assistance in your career decisions. It is said, “The biggest mistake that one can make, is not having enough information”. “So put in that extra effort, though it may take a while, be assured that the decision made is right”.
