Lab Chemistry
Chemists, trained in the science of chemistry, study the composition of its matter such as density, acidity, size and shape and describe them in terms of quantities, with detail on the level of molecules and its component atoms. Chemists are responsible for measuring reaction rate, substance proportion and other chemical properties.

Job Profile
- Responsibilities include:
a) Consulting with the appropriate technologists and laboratory instructors other technologists.
b) Preparing solutions and setting out equipment.
c) Doing technical duties related to the chemistry laboratory activities.
d) Giving technical assistance to instructors and students.
2. Maintains the inventory system by:
a) Completing an annual inventory in a timely manner.
b) Receiving supplies into the Chemistry Laboratory inventory.
c) Ensuring the safe storage of chemical materials.
d) Overseeing the collection and disposal of waste materials according to regulations. This is done in consultation with the shipping and receiving supervisor.
e) Distributing laboratory equipment and materials in the chemistry laboratories in
coordination with the other technologists.
3. Participates in and contributes to the upkeep of the Chemistry Laboratories by:
a) Providing orientation to instructors regarding laboratory procedures, location and use of materials, and
the operation of equipment.
b) Suggesting or performing general cleaning in the Chemistry laboratories.
c) Suggesting or performing maintenance or repairs of equipment in the Chemistry
laboratories.
d) Assisting in the orientation and training of new laboratory staff.
4. Participates in and contributes to a safe environment in the Chemistry Laboratories by:
a) Keeping current with safety regulations.
b) Checking and maintaining safety equipment.
c) Explaining safety procedures to individuals using the laboratories.
d) Being responsible for the evacuation of the Chemistry laboratories during emergencies.
e) Maintaining the MSDS inventory in the Chemistry laboratories.
5. Participates in and contributes to the achievement of Chemistry Laboratory, Departmental and
College goals through other related duties.
